Yellow-breasted Chat

(Icteria virens)


This large warbler can be found from central Mexico to Canada. It prefers overgrown habitats (eg abandoned farmland) where vegetation proliferates. The largest of its New World species, the Chat can reach lengths of 7.5 inches. It has a long bill and olive plumage with white undersides. It sports a distinctive bright yellow breast and throat, as well as black legs and white eye-rings.
