S. California Rufous-crowned Sparrow

(Aimophila ruficeps)

A small passerine found throughout the southwestern US and most of Mexico's interio, this bird has a brown back with dark streaks and a gray underside. Its crown is rufous (reddish), with a darker streak extending from the eyes. Seed-eaters, they are awkward fliers and prefer to hop along the ground.
