Shaw's Agave

(Agave shawii)


This small to medium-sized agave can be found along the coast of Baja California into the coastal chaparral scrub of southern California. It has green toothed leaves measuring 20-50 cm long, an an inflorescence consisting masses of reddish or yellow flowers atop lateral bracts. The last remaining population within the state of California was destroyed by the Federal Government for the purpose of erecting the triple fence to deter immigrants attempting to cross the border.
