Reddish Egret

(Egretta rufescens)

This heron has a range extending from central America up through Mexico and into San Diego County. Medium-sized, long-necked and legged, adults can reach lengths of 33 inches. There are two color morphs: the light morph has all-white plumage, and the dark morph has a blue body and red head. Both morphs have blue-black legs and feet.
