Osprey

(Pandion haliaetus)

Also known as the fish eagle or sea hawk, this large raptor occupies a broad variety of waterside habitat (its diet is almost exclusively fish). The osprey will grow to about 24 inches in length. The subspecies found in southern California is carolinensis, which sports a large dark body with a pale chest and underside.
