Orcutt's Spineflower

(Chorizanthe orcuttiana)

Until 1991, this species was considered extinct, when a very small stand of the plants were spotted in Encinitas. This annual herb grows in a microhabitat of coastal chaparral scrub possessing a distinctive loose sandy substrate.
