Elegant Tern

(Thalasseus elegans)

This seabird can be found along the Pacific coasts of the southern US, Mexico, wintering in South America. Medium to large in size, the bird has a long orange bill, black legs and crest, and pale gray to white plumage. A plunge-diver, part of its courtship display involves the male offering the female a fish.
