Coastal Cholla

Cylindropuntia prolifera is a cactus native to southern California and Baja. The plant is made up of cylindrical segments with thick tubercles, with red to purple flowers borne on the fruits from previous seasons. Coastal Cholla can grow up to 10 feet in height, and are found in coastal sage scrub, chaparral, and bluff habitats.
