Chaparral Beargrass

(Nolina cismontana)

This rare flowering plant is endemic to southern California. It can be found in coastal ranges of sage scrub and chaparral, the plant is known as a "fire-follower", as wildfires perpetuate its prolific blooming and reproduction. Adults grow to about a foot, with some individuals reaching up to 3.5 feet in height.
