Black Sage

Salvia mellifera gets its common name from its dark color, which is pronounced during drought. This highly-aromatic evergreen shrub is native to California, and is the most common of the coastal sage scrubs. The plant will grow between 3 and 6 feet tall, with ovular leaves and pale blue or lavender flowers. It can be found in coastal sage scrub and chaparral habitats up to 4,000 feet above sea level. Drought tolerant, Black Sage will curl its leaves rather than drop them.
