Bell's Sage Sparrow

(Amphispiza belli belli)


This subspecies has recently been placed in its own genus. Belli is found along the California coastal ranges and just into Baja California. About the same size as the sagebrush sparrow, they generally grow to about 6 inches in length. Its can be identified by its malar (cheekbone) stripe, which is thicker than that of most sparrows.
