American Peregrine Falcon

(Falco peregrinus anatum)

This falcon occurs over much of North America. Crow-sized, adults usually weigh less than about 2 pounds. They have dark gray dorsal and crown plumage, with dark bars against a light chest and underside. They can be identified by distinctive dark malar (cheekbone) stripes. Both sexes have similar markings, but the female can grow up to a third larger than the male.
