American Badger
(Taxidea taxus)
The american badger is a large, carnivorous mustelid. With short legs and huge foreclaws, it is an excellent digger but a poor runner, so it often hunts with foxes or coyotes which help to corner the prey it unearths.
Where: Found in grasslands, parklands and other treeless areas throughout most North America.
When: Badgers are nocturnal although occasionally seen during daylight. Though they do not hibernate, they become less active during winter. They are known to use the abandoned burrows of other animals.
